NY Power Lunch

Glen slicked an envelope with the wet-sponge tool, flicked it closed and added it to the pile. If you’d told him even a month ago that he’d be stuffing envelopes in a claustrophobic office, he wouldn’t have believed you. He and Tyler had more money than, well all but three people in the whole world, and stuffing envelopes didn’t jive with their playboy image. Or the playboy image they’d been given in the gossip press, anyway. They did attend a lot of charity functions now, go to a few clubs, but mostly he and Tyler had been shockingly domestic.

Glen stuffed another envelope. It wasn’t glamorous, but he was here to learn. He was pursuing an MBA in Foundation Management, for when the Conrad Merriwether Foundation got off the ground. Or the Merriwether Conrad Foundation. They hadn’t quite nailed down the name yet. The internship didn’t pay (not that he needed it), but the experience was invaluable. And it was required for the degree.

A woman in her early thirties came into the small workspace Glen was using. She was wearing jeans, a loose blouse and minimal jewelry. Glen thought Mary was pretty good looking, although he wouldn’t have gone for her, you know, before he got married. Well, maybe after he talked to her. Mary’s passion was infectious. Which was kind of a pun, since the non-profit she ran was called Doctors United. They worked to improve health conditions in poorer countries.

“How’s it going, Glen?” Mary asked.

“Pretty good. Should have this batch done in about twenty minutes.”

“Great!” She paused for a moment. “What are you doing for lunch today? Want to grab something together? My treat.”

Glen smiled. “Sure, that’d be nice.”

“Great!”
